A break in the weather.
A tide time and height condusive to watching Black-tailed Godwits.
An opportunity not to be missed!
The view from the cliff top is enticing...
I bump into a like minded Blackwit observer on the way to the shore and we spend a happy hour watching the birds and collecting colour ring sightings for Operation Godwit, eventually our eyes going blurry from all the staring at bird legs.
We look up from our telescopes as the sound of a train wafts over from the Welsh side of the Dee.
Thing is, it turns out not to be a train at all.
40,000 Knot taking off and flying around sounds exactly like the distant rumblings of the 14.15 Chester to Holyhead service. An awesome sight that we take in for a few minutes.
Birds well and truly watched, Christmas wishes are exchanged and we head our separate ways.
All afternoons should be like this.
More from the muddy banks of the Dee soon....
